SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF TREASURE HUNTERS Member Federation of Metal Detecting & Archeological Clubs Founded spring of 1989 / Club Newsletter January 2010 www.swathclub.org President: Joann Thomas Sgt.-at-Arms: Frank Griffith Vice President: Steve Churchman Finds board: Lyle Thomas & Chris Hulse Secretary: Diane Olson Newsletter Editor: Mike Showalter Treasurer: Diane Olson Club Webmaster: Mike Showalter SPECIAL NOTICE Jan 19th, 7:00pm (3rd Tuesday) - S.W.A.T.H. club meeting at the Mid-Columbia library in Kennewick. CLUB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Merry Christmas! I hope you have a blessed Holiday. As you know, we had to cancel the December meeting due to heavy ice on the roads. We don't want anyone to get hurt going to our meetings. Since we did this, there will be no finds of the month for December. In January, we will have the find of the Year display, so there will be no finds of the month for January either. Bring all of your finds for January and February to the February meeting and we will have a finds vote then. Congratulations to Nancy Thomas for being the "Hunter of the Year". Nancy will be presented with a trophy at the January meeting. There were no second nominations for officers so, the New Officers are as follows: President: Joanne Thomas V. President: Steve Churchman Sec/Treasurer: Diane Olson Sgt at Arms: Frank Griffith Finds Board: Lyle Thomas and Chris Hulse There were NO nominations for the office of Treasurer, so as in the past, we will combine the office of Secretary to Secretary/Treasurer. If ANYONE would like to help out and do the Treasurer's job I am sure that Diane Olson would appreciate the help. CONSIDER THIS: We need a Hunt Co-Chairman. Lyle Thomas is doing the Hunt but he needs someone who will step up and help him out. We need to DISCUSS THIS AT GREAT LENGTH at the January meeting. The future of the Hunt for 2010 is at stake here. One person cannot do it all. We need people who are WILLING to help plant hunt fields, co-chair the hunt, help with setup and all the other aspects of the Hunt in May. IF WE DO NOT GET HELP.... there will be no other alternative but to cancel the hunt. THINK ABOUT THIS CAREFULLY. DO YOU WANT A HUNT THIS YEAR? WE will discuss this at the next meeting in January. Have a great New Year and take care. Joanne CLUB TREASURE CLUES 1. The treasure is buried in the city of merchants at a location although small shares it's name with a river far away. 2. The location's first name is the same as one of the twelve, and has little to offer for children to play but rise early in the day to find the treasure for it would be in the shade where it can watch the game being played. CODE OF ETHICS I WILL respect private property and will not treasure hunt without owner's permission. I WILL fill all excavations. I WILL appreciate and protect our heritage of natural resources, wildlife, and private property. I WILL use thoughtfulness, consideration and courtesy at all times. I WILL build fires in designated or safe places only. I WILL leave gates as found. I WILL not destroy property, buildings or what is left of ghost towns and deserted structures. I WILL not tamper with signs, structural facilities or equipment. I WILL not litter.
